During this highly recommended small group private day trip from Colmar, charming towns and the most interesting landmarks of Alsace will be on your program. Depart from the small town of Colmar with your tour guide and discover the beautiful village of Turckheim. The village is a perfect starting point for a tour as it is a traditional Alsatian village with fewer tourists. Throughout the centre of Turckheim there are plenty of traditional Alsace style houses to admire, overflowing with flowers, and a few specific buildings of interest: mostly dating from the 16th and 17th century. These include the town hall, the hospital and the guard house. The most notable features are the fortifications and the three original gateways that surround the old town. While these defenses are common in some parts of France they are very unusual in the Alsace region. Enjoy a walking tour of the village with your guide. Other villages that might be of interest include the villages of Eguisheim or Kaysersberg. If these were on your bucket list, then just ask your driver/guide as it since this is a personalized private tour, we are flexible on the program. Your tour then continues onto the beautiful town of Riquewihr. Surrounded by ramparts, the village has been very fortunate to survive war and destruction. Its tiny cobblestoned streets, fortified walls and old houses have preserved their 16C splendor and have remained virtually intact, making for remarkable architectural harmony. Enjoy free time for personal discovery and lunch (not included). In the afternoon reach the Breathtaking Alsace ‘Wine Route’ and Visit a Mighty Castle Located between the Rhine valley and the Vosges mountain range, the 60 year old wine route winds across the slopes for more than 170 kms. The itinerary leads across rows of undulating, vine covered hills, and through quaint villages with narrow streets and charming flower decked houses clustered around the local church steeple. As you stop in one of these villages, experience a wine tasting session during which you will be introduced to the local wines (tasting fee not included). Finally, reach the medieval castle of Haut Koenigsbourg. Here, follow your guide for a tour of this mighty fortress that overlooks the valley. The Haut Koenigsbourg castle was built in 12th century; the Castle occupied a strategic position controlling the wine and wheat routes to the North and the salt route that came from the East. Entrance fee to the castle not included in the price. Chateau du Haut Koenigsbourg visit includes a large number of steps and uneven terrain, you must be in good physical condition to visit this monument. On this full day tour, benefit from the undivided attention of your guide on this private tour. (entrance fee not included)

This private full day wine tour from Colmar has been crafted so that you may have the privilege of tasting some of the most outstanding Alsace wines. At first, meet your English speaking driver guide (other languages on request) and travel in a fully equipped air conditioned minivan. Your wine tour will first take you to the Ribeauvillé wine producing region. Here, taste fabulous Rieslings that originate from the Kirchberg (marl and sandstone), Geisberg (marly limestone) and Osterberg (calcareous marl) Grands Crus. The hallmark of Ribeauvillé wines is their minerality. In fact, while most Grand Cru Rieslings have 1.5 g solids/liter, Ribeauvillé wines often reach 2.5 g/liter. Some of the most famous wine estates that produce these Grands Crus include Trimbach or Louis Sipp. Then, move on to discover a most unique and confidential Grand Cru: Kaefferkopf (literally ‘beetle head’). Divided into several sectors of the charming little town of Ammerschwihr, this Grand Cru is characterized by a complex geological substratum, combining granite on its upper parts with shelly limestone then sandstone lower down. Depending on availability, it will also be the moment to discover bio dynamic wine making (a form of alternative agriculture very similar to organic farming, but which includes various esoteric concepts) in wineries such as Domaine de la Sinn or Domaine Martin Sschaetzel. Finally reach the southern part of the Alsace wine route and discover emblematic Grands Crus such as Steinart, Goldert or Hatschbourg. It is in this part of the wine region that you will discover local Muscat. Alsace Muscat is distinguished from the sweet Muscats of the South of France by its dry character. Extremely aromatic, it expresses wonderful flavors of fresh fruit. We will also have you taste some exceptional Gerwurtztraminers that originate in the Hatschbourg Grand Cru. These are full-bodied wine, with solid structure and a round fullness. In tasting these wines, one rediscovers the complete aromatic palette, often with the addition of liquorice. Harvested very ripe, “late harvest” and “Selection de Grains Nobles” Gewurztraminers ranging from sweet to viscous, possess exceptional richness and extraordinary aromatic complexity. This full day Alsace wine tour is private so we can adapt it to your wishes. These fantastic french wines include whites wines, sparkling wines but also lesser known alsace pinot noirs. During the day, please note that it is also possible to stop and visit some of the most beautiful alsatian villages such as the village of Riquewihr. This full day Alsace private tour is perfect to taste the great wines of this wine producing area. Please note: wine tasting Feees, lunch and entrance fees are not included.
