Hiking The Black Forest Germany

Introducing The Black Forest Trail

I am very excited to announce the latest addition to our hiking packages – the Black Forest Trail. As our repeat customers know, we have offered the Red Deer Trail for several years. It has been a very popular package for serious hikers seeking to really immerse themselves in nature. But 5 days of long trails was too much for many of you, who wanted something shorter and not so remote. You still wanted the convenience of luggage transport to your next hotel, and you still wanted nice accommodations. I heard you! And after searching for the perfect alternative, I think I have assembled the perfect hiking package. I certainly have enjoyed putting it together for you. My Black Forest Trail Hike run partially along a section of the famous Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage trail (in Spain), which is pretty cool. While seeking that perfect balance of nature, food, accommodations, I have woven together some other fantastic trails and short-cuts that were either more beautiful or included some fantastic features; like Schnapps fountains and cozy Gasthaus-Restaurants. …

Hiking with a Guide

If you don’t want to worry about maps and hiking signs we can set you up with a local guide who takes you on a Black Forest hike, Our Guided Black Forest Hikes are laid out as half-day tours starting and ending in the Lake Titisee area.  Take the train (or car) on your own from Freiburg. Our hiking guides will meet you at the train station up in the mountains. You will hike one of the prettiest valleys in the Southern Black Forest. It is a very popular hike with locals. The hike itself is about 8 km. The hike can also be extended to cover a longer distance. Besides the classic, dark Black Forest gorge hike next to waterfalls, you get a lot of Black Forest history, a few touristy things, the oldest chapel in the Black Forest, the areas largest cuckoo clock and the option to have a beer in a typical Black Forest inn. This hike takes you down into a valley famous for its ancient mills that made everything from rope to spoons. You …

Harvest Season has begun

End of summer marks the beginning of the harvest season in our region. Many villages have started with the harvest of their grapes last week and the forecast is promising. If you happen to visit the Black Forest region right now – or within the next few weeks – make sure to participate in one of the famous ‘Weinwanderungen‘ – literally a ‘wine hike‘ in which thousands of people participate. They usually last a few kilometres and you will be equipped with a tasting glass and a map of the area. Every few kilometers there will be a wine-tasting station set up and local chefs create the appropriate appetizers, snacks and desserts to go with it. There is a shuttle service which will bring you back to your initial starting point. Besides the popular ‘wine hikes’ there are about a hundred wine festivals and other wine-related activities scheduled for the months of September and October. If you are lucky, you will even meet a wine princess. If you are not sure where to get started …
