Edge of the Forest Trail

Our Edge of the Forest Trail is designed for all those who want easy shorter hikes combined with nice hotels at the end of the day. If you don’t need a big mountain to climb or like to put lots of kilometres underfoot by the end day, we have the perfect hike right here. This hike is for people who still want a bit of activity but not too much. If you are looking for a balance of outdoors and still have energy to enjoy the town by night, this is the hike for you. The Edge of the Forest Trail not only takes you on scenic hikes through the Black Forest, you also get to walk through vineyards with views onto the Rhine Valley. We have included several places to eat during your day and made space to just relax. You will even find some wooden lounge chairs the locals have built for themselves along this trail, all for you to take a break and enjoy the surroundings. You stop at schnapps fountains where farmers dispense their distilled liquors, for hikers just like you, who may want to pause for a libation along the way. It may sound too civilized, but this is an off-the-beaten-path trail and you are unlikely to run into other tourists. This is where we locals hike. You spend your evenings in family-owned hotels, located in small Black Forest towns, with plenty of good food. We provide orientation to the towns, so you can explore in the evenings.

Is this a good hike for me? The Edge of the Forest Trail is a good hike if you are looking for fairly easy trails with limited elevation changes. These superior hotels are located in typical small Black Forest towns where you can expect to interact with locals. Therefore this is a great tour if you are looking for some quiet time in nature, walks through vineyards with scenic views and experience some culture in these beautiful towns of the Black forest.  You will receive all trail information and maps from us.

Why we like this hike: This is a good hike for beginners (or more experienced) who can cover distances of up to 12 km over easy terrain. The main purpose of this hike is to provide you with a bit of hiking, a bit of the forest, a bit of the vineyards and orchards that surround the forest,  local food, and the culture that comes with local hotels in small Black Forest towns. All combined in what we hope you find is a perfect balance.

When to go. The Edge of the Forest Package is available from April to October.

Good to know. The Edge of the Forest Trail is very similar to our Wine Trail – the difference is, that we added some days of hiking in the Black Forest, providing you with a balanced combination of forest and vineyard trails.

The second town you are staying in is a paradise for hikers – ideal location if you want to add on additional days. This is also a good hike if you like wine – there are lots of vineyards & wine makers on the edge of the Black Forest assuring there is lots of good food and wine.
