Your visit to the Black Forest region starts out in Freiburg – secretly called ‘the capital of the Black Forest’. Being the sunniest town in Germany people come here to enjoy warm temperatures and a very laied-back lifestyle. We include a self-guided tour in your package so your really get to know the city like a local.

A driver will pick you up the next day for an all-day driving tour through the Black Forest region. There are lots of things to see, and priorities are different for everyone. That’s why we have several itineraries you can choose from – we really want that you get to see and do what’s important to you. We present you all the options – you get to pick what to see and what to do.

Baden-Baden: thermal baths

Itinerary

Arrival Day in Freiburg

Arrive by train in Freiburg, the capital of the Black Forest (the stop is called Freiburg im Breisgau). Your hotel is ready for check-in mid-afternoon. But you can certainly arrive anytime before that, drop off your luggage, and start exploring!

If you are arriving early we recommend that you head into town (a short 10 minute walk) for a quick orientation.

Dinner

We will provide you with plenty of options on where to grab a bite to eat in the evening in Freiburg.

Accommodation

  • standard hotel

We work with several smaller family-owned hotels in Freiburg. They are either located close the train station. Or we can provide a pick-up by car to get you to your hotel in the old town.

Day 1: Freiburg

Morning. After breakfast our guide will meet you at your hotel to take you on a 90 minute walking tour of Freiburg. Afterwards you have all day to explore Freiburg on your own. Head to the farmer’s market like a local and see for yourself what’s in season. Have lunch  in the old town to taste some of the local specialties.

  • More interested in food than in history? For a small fee and depending on availability you can upgrade your guided tour to a Culinary Tour of Freiburg.  This is possible on certain days (Wednesday- Saturdays)

After lunch you have several options. We equip you with all the information you need to tour on your own

  1. Some people like to stay in Freiburg and enjoy an afternoon in the beer garden. Plenty of options!
  2. Or head to the nearby mountain by public transportation. Then take the cable car up to a viewing platform. Enjoy coffee & cake at a cafe or go for a walk up to the sightseeing tower.

Accommodation

  • same hotel as the night before

Day 2: Tour of the Black Forest

Accommodation:

  • We work with several hotels in Baden-Baden, all located in the town centre. Upgrades possible.

Simone did a great job at putting the package together for my sister and I. A walking tour of Frieburg was great. It was such a nice cozy town. The next day Simone drove my sister and I around the Black Forest, showing us all of the treasures of the forest, and she even show us the back roads that she only just discovered that day. We finished the tour in Baden-baden, finishing the day in the baths and a nice dinner. I hope to come back in the future to explore more of the Black Forest and the towns.
